When I was in high school, I took an aerobics class in order to satisfy a physical education requirement. We did a warm-up routine to C + C Music Factory's "Gonna Make You Sweat."

One day, our instructor (whose name I've forgotten - has it been that long?) came in and set up, then saw a spider and screamed. In unison, we as a class stepped forward and threw our fists in the air to begin the first routine, thinking the music had already started.

Cindy! That was her name!

I'll never forget how funny that was.

We also had routines set to Dee-Lite's "Groove in in the Heart," Madonna's "Vogue" and Steve Miller's "Jet Airliner," among others I've likely forgotten.

Occasionally, Cindy would decide that it was a good day for a "power-walk," so instead performing of our usual workout routines we would take a very brisk walk along the running paths behind the school. I hated those. Once, my friend Stephanie and I were in the ladies' room before class and when we came out, everyone was gone, on a power-walk. We'd signed in, and were therefore counted as present, so we got in Stephanie's car and went to the Quik-Trip for Koolees and Butterfingers. Having fueled up, we decided to go see a movie. We went to see Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey. Afterward, no one seemed to notice we had ever been gone.

After that, every time we heard Cindy say "power-walk," Stephanie and I went to the ladies' room. I must have seen Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey seven or eight times that semester. I was never counted absent from aerobics class.

KISS's "God Gave Rock 'N' Roll to You" still brings a tear to my eye.

The National Hockey League's annual outdoor game will return on New Year's Day 2010, when the Boston Bruins will host the Philadelphia Flyers at the Red Sox's home for the 1 p.m. ET Bridgestone/NHL Winter Classic.
Hello Kiddies,

Shutdown 2009 has settled in nicely. The first few days conisisted of REST that was desperately needed and catching up on a few things. I never did make it to Gunnison or Philly, but a dear friend visited and we had happy chill time. Managed to make it out to Judas Priest/Whitesnake at JB with Roberto which was a really awesome show! I had never seen Priest live and now I am certainly glad that has been rectified. Monday had a shitload of errands including my semi-annual check up, car registration & inspection, and a few other odds and ends. Yesterday I cleaned up my storage locker and finally got a new phone!

After much research and deliberation, I decided on the HTC Ozone. It seemed more user-friendly and I liked the design more than most of the Blackberry and other smartphones. Windows Mobile has a bit of a learning curve but I'll get the hang of it soon I'm sure. I topped off the day with a trip to Kips Bay to see Bruno. It was gloriously offensive and deliriously funny! I'm sure it would have twisted the minds of any of the teenys and tweenies that were lined up to see Harry Potter. Catching up on TV and some more errands later and may actually get to vacation type stuff later this week. Blogging may be light. :) Catch me on Twitter if you can. I realize I would be remiss without adding a video so here's a fave. At some point this week I'm probably going to see the new Transformers movie, but I really doubt that with all the special effects that there will be a scene that can top this.

Sum up your day in the form of a haiku.

Of all the things the stars of Major League Baseball had to have taken away from their meeting with President Barack Obama prior to the 80th All-Star Game on Tuesday, it's this: The leader of the free world definitely does his homework when it comes to hardball.
His main job is to get saves, and Jonathan Papelbon already has 136 of them, a Red Sox record. Every now and then, however, a win comes along, and this is one Papelbon will cherish.

Happy Bastille Day! Today the French celebrate the event that sparked the French revolution. In honor of our Francophone friends, what is your favorite French thing? Bonus points for answers en français.

Fellatio is called "French" sometimes, I think. Um. Alsace is in France, so Riesling just slips in as French, though I prefer Finger Lakes (NY). [info]porcelain72 is part French, but she's not a thing. I'd have to say, I think, the cuisine.
Once a well-kept secret in Pittsburgh, Jason Bay's hitting heroics are now a regular staple of national highlight programs. This is his third All-Star Game, but first with the high profile that comes when you are a standout performer for the Boston Red Sox.

If you would like to attend my photo show on Wednesday, let me know and I will provide you with details.

And now I will be busy making prints for the next several hours.
Five Red Sox All-Stars took up their own corner of the room during the American League media availability on Monday afternoon, but one was easy to distinguish from the others.
I have just read the most profoundly preposterous twaddle I've seen in a very long time (comments no longer being accepted, otherwise the author would have gotten an earful).

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/10/books/10willows.html

All about two annotated versions of one of the books I love best, "The Wind in the Willows."

My issue---putting aside suggestions of it all being about upper-class Edwardian Britain quashing lower classes, which may or may not be a matter for lawful debate---is with the alleged sexualization of the relationships.

GREAT GODDESS DEFEND US! Is there no END to the banal stupidities of alleged literary types??? Ratty and Mole's relationship is in no way homoerotic, any more than Frodo and Sam's, and I'm getting more and more revolted by moronic deconstructionists trying to foist a sexual subtext onto everything that comes along.

As for the "sexuality" allegedly present in the Piper chapter, no. Just. No. Ecstasy, certainly: it brings tears of joy to my eyes every time I read it. But "sexual"? Hardly!

Again, this relentless sexualization has GOT to stop. Before it irredeemably taints and smears every lovely thing in literature with its sneery, sniggering ickiness. Makes. Me. Sick.
Though Casey Kelly had the honor of representing the Red Sox at the XM All-Star Futures Game on Sunday, the truth is that his future is still filled with the intriguing unknown.
Though the Red Sox haven't reached a level of play to Jason Bay's optimal liking, he is optimistic that the team is headed in the right direction.

In order to give their starters extra rest during the All-Star break, the Red Sox will promote Clay Buchholz from Triple-A Pawtucket to start the second half of the season in Toronto.

This weekend has not gone anywhere close to how I planned it. It's still turning out pretty damn good. Off to see Metal Gods with RRC. Here's a video that was an amusing topic of conversation this weekend among a few friends.

All-Star Josh Beckett ended his first half with an absolute gem, going all the way on Sunday to lead the Sox to a 6-0 victory over the Royals, helping seal a series win as well.
The Red Sox honored the late Dom DiMaggio on Sunday afternoon in a pregame ceremony at Fenway Park.
Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia, citing a need to stay home to attend to a family health matter, has decided not to participate in Tuesday's All-Star Game.
Josh Beckett's value on the mound is obvious to even the most casual observer, but to Red Sox manager Terry Francona, the right-hander is just as valuable off the field, where he leads by example.
Boston's hitters gave John Smoltz nine early runs on his way to his first win with the Red Sox, but the bullpen made him sweat out the final four frames of Boston's 15-9 win over the Royals.
